In The Spotlight: Posters from the Moscow Olympics 1980
NEW! Visit our website at www.AntikBar.co.uk to view all our original vintage posters from around the world, including posters for various Summer and Winter Olympic Games + our latest additions for the Moscow Olympics.

Held from 19 July to 3 August, the 1980 Moscow Olympic Games were the first to be hosted in an Eastern European country and the first held in a (then) Communist country.
Officially the Games of the XXII Olympiad and known as Москва 1980 / Moscow 1980, the highest number of events were held at this Summer Olympics than previously and more new Olympic records were set than in previous events.
Out of the 203 events in 27 sport disciplines, the Soviet Union came in first place with 80 gold medals (total: 195 medals), followed by East Germany (GDR) with 47 gold medals (total: 126 medals), and Bulgaria in third place with 8 gold medals (total: 41 medals). Only 80 nations participated, mostly due to the US-led boycott relating to the Soviet-Afghan War, with some athletes participating under the Olympic Flag and their National Olympic Committee flags.
Below are a few posters from our current stock over 50 original vintage posters from the Moscow Olympics 1980, including some featuring individual sports and the newly built stadiums, and posters for the film on the opening and closing ceremonies (click on the image links for more information). Many also feature the Спорт Мир Дружба / Sport Peace Friendship theme and the popular smiling bear — Миша / Misha the Moscow Olympic Games mascot — designed by the children’s book illustrator Victor Chizhikov (1935-2020).
Visit our website to browse all our original vintage posters from around the world, including more Olympic and other sport posters as well as an extensive variety of travel, propaganda, war, advertising and movie posters — all available to view and order online with worldwide delivery and at our gallery:
